Die BR 215 war eine Diesellokomotiven-Type der DB und später der Deutschen Bahn AG für den mittelschweren Reise- und Güterzugdienst. Die Baureihe wurde kurzfristig als Variante der Fahrzeug-Familie V 160 beschafft und mit Heizdampferzeugern ausgerüstet. Der Hauptgrund für den Bau der BR 215 lag darin, dass die BR 218 noch nicht die Serienreife erreicht hatte.
